Bob Darby has 30 years of experience in helping clients resolve disputes in litigation, arbitration and mediation. His clients include major financial institutions, manufacturers, municipalities and insurance companies. Bob's extensive experience as a commercial litigator includes securities litigation, class actions and bankruptcy-related litigation. He has been a member of the Attorney Settlement Officer Panel of the United States District Court for the Central District of California since 2002.
Representative matters:
- Obtained $9 million settlement for bank/aircraft lessor in litigation against manufacturer
- Obtained defense jury verdict for envelope manufacturing company in race and age discrimination suit brought by terminated employee
- Obtained "walk away" settlement for major oil company in lease dispute
- Obtained "walk away" settlement for community college district in contract dispute with computer design vendor
- Obtained reversal of death sentence for condemned inmate on grounds of ineffective assistance of counsel, Boyde v. Brown, 404 F.3d 1159 (9th Cir. 2005)
- Obtained full payment for holders of $169 million of municipal bonds in Orange County, In re County of Orange, 189 B.R. 499 (C.D. Cal. 1995)
- Representation of a group of municipal utilities as creditors in the Chapter 11 bankruptcies of the California Power Exchange and PG&E in the related litigation brought by the Cal PX and the State of California
- Representation of a major international oil company in leasehold and bankruptcy litigation involving service station and lubrication center operators
