This one-hour discussion provided insights into the development of carbon offset trading under the Kyoto Protocol and Renewable Energy Credit (REC) trading under various U.S. Renewable Portfolio Standards, as well as exploring the future of a U.S. emissions trading market. One of our guest panelists has been involved in sourcing, developing and trading carbon credits worldwide, and the other has extensive legal experience in energy financial services, commodities and developing the infrastructure for trading RECs here in the United States.

Fulbright lawyers discussed lessons that can be learned from the problems encountered in the carbon offset and U.S. REC markets as we examined what a potential U.S. market might look like. This web seminar provided provocative ideas to consider as "cap and trade" legislation moves forward in Washington.
