As an undergraduate, Tony served as student government vice-president and was chosen as the Outstanding Senior Man. While in law school, he was an editor of the Southwestern Law Journal (now the SMU Law Review) and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. He was admitted to practice law in Texas in 1973.
In his spare time, Tony enjoys road biking and exercising, two activities that keep him prepared for snow skiing, hiking and fly fishing excursions. He also enjoys catching up with his children and grandchildren on the slopes, especially on those days he considers perfect: 24 degrees, no wind, crisp and clear.
