What is RSS?

RSS (Real Simple Syndication) gives users an easy way to keep up with the latest information being published. An RSS "feed" consists of headlines from stories that have been recently published, a short synopsis and a link to the rest of the story. You can organize RSS content from multiple websites in one convenient location, making it easier to stay up to date without having to visit each website individually.

How do I start using feeds?

The first thing you need is a news reader. A news reader is a software application (sometimes Browser-based) which makes it possible to collect and view RSS feeds in one convenient location. News readers work by periodically checking each subscription feed for updates allowing you to view newly posted content.

If you click on a RSS button, you can subscribe to the feed in various ways , including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your reader.

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer 7, automatically look for feeds when you visit a website. An icon will indicate that a website offers an RSS feed, making subscribing to feeds easier.
